Radioactive Iodine [131-I] for Thyrotoxicosis

Preparation

As for thyroid scan - Thyroid scan with 99mTc uptake required before consultation. For most patients it is recommended that this treatment be conducted on an outpatient basis.

In young women - negative pregnancy test on the day of treatment is required.

Proper anticonception must be arranged for the period of 12 months.

Attention

After oral administration of the 131I dose patient should stay in isolation for 3 days and follow specific radiation safety instructions for up to 3 weeks.
