Renal Reflux Study (with Tc99m - DTPA)
Indications
Diagnosis and follow up of vesicoureteral reflux. This procedure provides 50 x less radiation to the pelvis than the X-ray technique, however the first study is preferred to be done in Radiology with radionuclide follow- up studies.
Preparation
Requires catheterisation of bladder.
Procedure
After emptying, the bladder is filled with normal saline containing a small dose of Tc99m DTPA with continuous scanning until maximal filling of the bladder. The second part of the study ( voiding ) follows immediately with patient in sitting position.
