LUNG ASPIRATION STUDIES

1.    Salivagram

This may be performed in addition and immediately prior to a milk scan, if required.

Procedure

Patient must fast for 4-6 hours prior to scan. Dynamic acquisition after drop of isotope placed under the tongue – continued until activity no longer present in the mouth.

2.    Milk scan

Procedure

8 pm oral administration of milk containing Tc99m-calcium colloid. 

Dynamic scan for 60 minutes, followed with static views of the chest and abdomen the next morning.
