Gastrointestinal Bleeding Study (with Tc99m - RBC)

Scan may need to be carried out for 24 hours, and is therefore available for inpatients only.

Indications

Detection and localisation of gastrointestinal bleeding, and occult bleeding including lungs, retroperitoneal, and peripheral sites.

Preparation

Potassium perchlorate 400mg orally 30 min. before the study, Pyrophosphate 1 mg I.V. 10 min before study.

Attention

Preparation for colonoscopy jeopardise the study. In case of urgent colonoscopy required within 24 hours post RBC labelling ,please contact Nuclear Physician.
