Gastric Emptying Study (with Tc99m - Chelex 100 resin)
Semi-solid meal prepared with oatmeal, milk and resin followed with 200 mls of water.
Indications
Suspected delay in gastric emptying and follow up after treatment. Diabetic gastroparesis.
Preparation
Study starts at 8.30 a.m. after overnight fast, tobacco stopped for at least 24 hours. Patients on insulin are required to bring their morning dose for injection after test is completed.
Procedure
60 mins. continuous scanning with patient in sitting position (watching video).
Optional liquid phase study (same meal with Ga-67 labelled water) can be performed on the following day after semi-solid meal study (scanning time 30 minutes).
