Gallium Whole Body Scan (with Ga- 67 citrate)
Indications
P.U.O., osteomyelitis and infected hip and knee prostheses (after obligatory bone scan), abscesses, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, opportunistic lung infections,like PCP;., malignancy (Ca lung, lymphoma, melanoma).
Procedure
I.V. injection with scan 48 hours later, sometimes additional 72 hours images are necessary.
Preparation
Picolax is to be taken the day after injection (4 p.m.). Enema next morning if Picolax is not effective.
40 yo man with high fever and high white cell count. Gallium tomography presents left pararenal abscess.
