C.S.F. FLOW STUDY ( CISTERNOGRAPHY) with Tc99m - DTPA
Indications
Evaluation of normal pressure hydrocephalus(NPH). Detection of C.S.F. leaks.
MRI study,as less invasive should be done first for evaluation of NPH.
Preparation
Patient should be admitted to the ward. Brain CT films should be available.
Procedure
Study begins at 9 a.m. after overnight fasting. Administration of Tc99m - DTPA through lumbar puncture, which should be arranged in Radiology (with the use of Image Intensifier).Scans 2, 4, 6, 24 and, if needed, 48 hours post administration.
Tracer fills enlarged lateral ventricles at 6 hrs post lumbar puncture.
Retention in lateral ventricles and poor transit over convexities at 24hrs.
